You can start to see how small these little ones are. This one was trying to escape off the volunteer's hand (which would be bad given the drop to the ground). She's delicately picking him up by the edges of the shell here so he can be placed by the pond.

Another nice photo. The turtles they used to sell back when had a smoother appearance with white stripes on their head.

Thank you! This is one of the native turtle species, the snapping turtle. A bit more 'prehistoric' looking and less colourful. Do you know what kind of turtles (species) they used to sell?
