Description

Dionysus, the Greek God of Enlightenment and Madness, Bacchus in Roman, is the most unusual God in the Greek pantheon due to his Transgressions. According to Tradition, he was the Son of Zeus with a Theban Princess, Selene, making him the only greek God with a mortal Mother. Zeus had to hide the Child from his jealous Wife Hera, who tried to murder him several times. Hera caused the Titans, monsters of ancient Times, to tear Dionysus apart and devour him, but Zeus was able to recreate him from the remaining Heart, which is why he was called the “Twice-born”. He grew up hidden on Earth in wild Thrace with Nymphs, which is why his symbolic Animal is the Leopard. After that Hera struck him with Madness, he was cured by the more ancient Goddess Cybele; since then he has not only been able to grant Glimpses of the Divine, but also to cause Madness, Horror and Death. Having grown up, he discovered the Cultivation and Production of wine and spread this knowledge on his travels as far as India and Africa. In his Cult, the Mirror of Wine was used to recognize the Divine, hence the view into the Cup here ("Kantharos"). His wild Entourage consisted of Women (Bacchantes) and Creatures of Nature, Satyrs. In the End, he finally moved to Mount Olympus with his mortal Wife Ariadne. His Cult was celebrated for over 2500 years, but it changed in Magna Graeca, the italian Colonies of the Greeks and especially in the Roman Empire. A priestly but corrupted Caste developed there, Men were also admitted to the celebrations (Bacchanals) and the Focus for Participants from the upper Classes was only on “permitted” Vice, not Divination. The Roman Senate saw the perverted Cult as one the greatest Danger to the Empire and had tens of thousands of Members punished and even 7,000 executed in 186 BC. This was more than the later persecutions of Christians and marked the end of the Cult. Dionysus, the ambivalent God crossing Borders, who could both enlighten and destroy the Soul!

Thank Yo, Mylady, for taking the Time and to comment. I was not sure about this one here, because I did it without my Muse, but Your "Placet" helps! (My Muse sent me some Postcards from the Bermudas, she has to think about some Subjects, she wrote! ;)

Very nice! I love the powerful swirls beneath his feet in contrast with the calm above. Very interesting information background for this God too. He has a very detailed and crazy story

Thank You, APlus! You are generous and kind to me! :) Glad You noticed the Swirl, that was the Idea. Its Dantes Inferno from the Galaxis-Series by the way, recyled, but dont tell that to the others! ;)

Interesting Series bout "little Canada", some are almost photorealistic. It would be very cheap and resource-saving living there! ;)

:D Thank You, but not shy in no Way! The Rites were promiscuous, rather. Late Sculptures of Dion are androgynous, which may be disturbing, therefore the "Veil" of Leaves! But Your Wish is my Order, so I added an Image without Veil, say: the "Jollyself-Edition"! ;) (The Model was a Volunteer, so I am not responsible for his Actions!)

@ chrysaor It was a very clever use of the Galaxis-Series, very fitting :)

And indeed, the Little Canada exhibit is very well detailed! It is amazing how much work went into it.

Oui et non! Le point crucial est qu'il peut apporter la bénédiction et la maladie, qui peut décider? :[
