If you are of a certain age and/or had relatives living in East Tennessee or Western North Carolina and in the foothills or actually in the Appalachian Mountains range as I did, you knew of relatives who were without indoor running water and, in some cases, electricity. You also knew what that tiny shack, with a quarter moon shape cut through its door, down a pathway, was used for. In those households, you would most likely see a galvanized tub either hanging by one of its handles on the back porch wall or sitting on the floor of the back porch. Well, this is what it was used for. At a very young age, when visiting “kin,” I was in and out of one of these wash tubs more times than you could shake a stick at !!!!
