Description

Grimalkin was no ordinary cat. But of course the man didn't know this when she first crossed his path. He had a very strange dream that first night. He was trying to leave his house but every time he approached a window he saw a huge cat looking hungrily at him. He woke in a cold sweat, but the memory of the dream had already evaporated. On the second night he had a second disturbing dream. As he walked around the house he became aware that his feet clicked on the tiled floor, and when he looked down he realized that his toes were scaly and clawed. He stared out through the window into the darkness but could see nothing, just his own vague reflection - but no, it wasn't him, there was something avian about it. As he was pondering a huge disembodied black feline visage appeared just beyond the pane of glass, staring intently at him. "Open the window" it purred in a silky feminine voice, "Let Grimalkin in - Grimalkin hungers..." Once again he awoke in a cold sweat, but as before he could not recall what it was that had disturbed him so. The man never woke from his third night's sleep and everybody said that he must have died of heart failure. Grimalkin just stretched out langorously in the morning sun, purring contentedly, with a satisfied grin on her face, a scattering of feathers around her, and a full belly.

This has a very T. S. Eliot feel to it. Almost feel like it could be an entry in the Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats....

Thanks for the comparison - but I have to note that T.S.Eliot was actually rather good at writing ! ;o)
