Description
The Colosseum consisted of two main gates. One was the Triumphalis, to the northeast, the gateway to the arena for gladiators and animals; the other was the Libitinensis, a gate consecrated to the goddess Libitina, mother of the passage to the afterlife. The ancient Romans believed that the world of the dead was, in some way, linked to the world of the living. According to some rumors, there were seven gates to reach that tremendous space, and one of them was in the center of Rome, we are talking about the Flavian Amphitheater, better known as the Colosseum.
