Description

After Germaine Krull. I present a new series of 7 images entitled the camera lucida as a counterpoint to the camera obscura ; thanks to Roland Barthes. To use Barthes' concepts, the studium, here consists of presenting a very synthetic history of the photographed female nude, taken in charge by women photographers. This reappropriation of the image of their body in a world largely dominated by the gaze of men is something that questions our culture and our education of the gaze. I also wanted to confront the concept of punctum, it is what "points", a detail that provokes an emotion in the spectator, which can escape the intention of the photographer, a kind of subtle off-screen. Here are some keys to understanding its possible location in my images: if the enlarger takes the place of the figure of the male gaze on the image of the women's body, what does the action of a photographer who takes the safelight bulb as her subject mean? Absurd figure of resistance by photographing what has no impact on photosensitive surfaces? Yet this series aims to question what is developing and revealing when the first photosensitive surface at stake in photography is that of the model's skin. Last key before letting you gradually discover the whole: between the negative and the positive of each photo cited, there is this approximate visual play on words: the negative that has become a shawl for the young female photographer stands in for "Shall I" as if after years of male gaze, a woman had to ask permission to not only be a model, but also a creator, and to be able to freely assume all the roles she has chosen to be. And I was thinking that her pregnancy and giving birth was an analogy to the creation of art... I really appreciate that you sharing your thinking and inspiration for this! <3
