~Cozy Xmas 2024~ Some people believe "Xmas" is a secular or disrespectful attempt to "remove Christ from Christmas". However, that is a misconception. The abbreviation has been used by Christians for centuries, dating back to at least the 16th century. The "X" in "Xmas" comes from the Greek letter Chi (Χ), which is the first letter of "Christos" (Χριστός), the Greek word for "Christ." Why Greek, you may ask? That's because Greek was the common language of the Eastern Mediterranean and Near East during the early centuries of Christianity. The Greek Bible (3rd-1st century BCE) has played a crucial role in early translations to other languages, widely used in the Hellenistic world by Greek-speaking Jews and later by early Christians.
