Description

No, I haven't died, in fact my health has improved dramatically, but that has led to lots of work opportunities so I haven't had much time for 3D or visits to the galleries lately. However this project was done entirely today, and I must admit I am excessively pleased with the resulting creatures. Genesis 8 Male added for scale. Yes, these goofy little dinosaurs are about right in both size and appearance for a real — and full grown for two of them — velociraptor. A velociraptor was about the size of a wild turkey, had feathers — yep, even more like a wild turkey — and ran in hunting packs. OK, that last bit is not like a wild turkey, they don't seem to hunt, just forage. The makers of the Jurassic Park movie could have made those parts of the movie more realistic just by calling the dinosaurs Dakotaraptors — those were about the size of the Jurassic Park velociraptors, and built a lot like them too. The Dakotaraptor was also feathered though, much like the velociraptor, and maybe they thought that wouldn't look scary enough, or maybe the feathers weren't discovered when Jurassic Park was made. These were the Herschel Hoffmeyer Dakotaraptor originally, but after exporting them from DAZ Studio using the Diffeomorphic script and importing into Blender using the matching Blender add-on, I rescaled them and recoloured them, then reshaped their heads using Blender's modelling tools. Velociraptors had a more slender, goofy looking muzzle shape than the dakotaraptor so they look about right now. A fun one-day adaptation of the excellent original model. For comparison I will post an image of the creatures before I messed with them.
