Description
From my parent's garden. They were members of a Dahlia association which held competitions; County, State, National, and International. This is one of the few photos that I keep with me. Shot with a Canon 10D and L-series lens.
Dahlias are octoploids, meaning they have eight sets of chromosomes, whereas most living things are diploids and only have two sets, like humans. It is this sizeable genetic makeup that allows for a single flower species to be so diverse.
