Description
The little mer-boy, #Palaemon, was a minor sea-god in #Classical #Greece. He became #Portunus to the #Romans, a god of ports, doors and keys. Yes, Mister #Disney, the object in his hand is not a fork, though your confusion in the rush to pitch your mermaid movie is forgiven. In fact, here Portunus holds a style of key used to open an early pin-tumbler lock (the predecessor of the 'Yale' lock of today).
Patrician fathers of #Rome sensibly locked away all valuable possessions (in this case, the daughter). Unfortunately, each year during the Portunalia festival, the city's householders gleefully threw their keys into a sort of fiery lucky dip down at the young god's temple. Mmmm? Fathers of Rome, be honest, did you actually hand your house keys to a great grandson of #Venus?

I modelled the antique Greco-Roman key and oil-lamp in Shade 10.
RPublishing 'Dark Corridors' (no longer avail.) gets a cameo here (an oldie, but a goodie). I hid the asset's torches in favour of a more domestic light source.
