During the nineteenth century, the amount of fresh horse manure on streets in New York, Paris, and London was daily measured in tons. In these and other cities, women on foot or in carriages carried perfumed bouquets to ward off the stench of heavy traffic. Shopkeepers and tenants had to endure it, day and night.
And, given the latest UN climate forecasts, I'm beginning to think they were lucky. We've so much more to worry about than the stink of horse s!!t.

I love the beautiful atmosphere and colors, especially the building on the left has fantastic details, just like the lady's dress on the left. In any case, I find it very nicely portrayed, because I happened to watch a film about the life of Levi Strauss & Co this week, and the origin of the jeans. There was the same atmosphere as here with you.
