The term or reference to karma is now also used colloquially in everyday language (especially by younger people)[5] and usually has negative connotations (“bad karma”). For example, people talk about “karma” when something apparently falls back on a person who has previously behaved wrongly or maliciously, i.e. negatively. Sometimes even the attempt or the thought of doing something wrong or malicious is enough, as long as a corresponding consequence occurs. Unlike is often the case with the original, spiritual concept of karma, the consequence occurs at a short distance in time, up to an immediate counter-reaction/consequence - so-called “instant karma”[6] (from the English ‘instant’ = “immediately, instantly”). The colloquial use of the word “karma” should be distinguished from the spiritual or religious concept, as the spiritual or religious background does not play a role here.
