Description
This started as an AI image a couple years ago when AI image generators first became available to the public. The original image was overall bad. Really bad. But the composition and the overall concept was interesting to me. Great idea! Good composition! Bad execution. I saved the image in 2023 and came across it the other day. Then I thought, I can do something with that.
This is largely repainted using Photoshop, and Poser to work out the figure, and good old Bryce for skulls and the statue. The clouds in the center of the image and the shapes in the background remain mostly unchanged, except for some textures, god rays, and contrast. Everything else was so substandard (remember, this was two years ago and the technology was quite new) that it was mostly not usable. An excellent foundation though! Like a sketch!
So I set to work figuring out how to do it. I'm not really a paint-over guy. When I use Poser, I paint all of the clothing. When I use 3D models, I render them gray so I can paint them the way I want. In the end, I ended up just repainting most everything. The rocks in the original image looked like a bad photo-bash. The wrinkles on his clothing were a great start, but the original image was quite dark, so I couldn't make out anything on his backside. The overall saturation was quite orange and none of the background colors played a part in the foreground. Etc, etc.
Ultimately, this is what I came up with. If you saw a thumbnail of the original you might think I changed very little. At full size, you would hopefully realize that the only remaining elements are those beautiful clouds and the composition. In a day in age when I use AI image generators every day in my job, this is the first time I really appreciated it's input ;)
Hope you enjoy!
