~Valeria~ First appearing in Robert E. Howard’s "Red Nails" (1936, Weird Tales pulp fiction magazine), Valeria was a fierce pirate warrior of the Red Brotherhood, a bandit gang. Like Bêlit and Red Sonja, she was a skilled swordswoman and Conan’s second major love interest in the original chronological lore. Together, they explored the deadly ruins of Xuchotl in the Hyborian Age, facing danger and adventure. Depending on the version, Valeria’s fate varies. She was killed in the 1970s Marvel comics and again in the 1982 movie adaptation, where she was portrayed by Sandahl Bergman, an American dancer and fitness enthusiast. However, in Howard’s original story, Valeria survived, later parting ways with Conan on good terms. This concludes my exploration of Conan’s three major lovers: Bêlit (Queen of the Black Coast, 1934), Valeria (Pirate Warrior, 1936), and Sonja (Red Sonja, 1973). The first two were Howard’s original creations, while Red Sonja was a modern adaptation by Marvel Comics. Interestingly, they were, respectively, a brunette, a blonde, and a redhead.
