I've been working on computers since the age of 11 and just recently got in to 3D Art. I've been doing it for 11 months now.
I started out with Poser & bryce but after messing with those for a while I wanted to start making my own 3D Creations, so I started messing with Rhino, and I stuck with that for a couple of months. but I also wanted to get into animation so I started messing around with Cinema 4D :)

I'd say dump the birds-eye perspective. This looks far too abstract. If you want something from above that's fine, but don't make it be straight down. Part of what makes a landscape recognizable as such is a receding perspective. You want to draw the elements on the top of your picture smaller than the ones on the bottom, and have the size vary linearly with the position. Making the water dirtier might be a good idea, but I think that if you can make it clear that it is water, and not air (or a textured background for an abstract) it will be sufficient to convey the swampiness of your picture.
