Hey, My Second attempt... I was trying to do a swamp type look, but the water looks too clean... a clean swamp.. hm.. anyway :) This one came out OK but for some reason it looks like some of the land is floating in the air... oh well... lol :-P Thanks for viewing!

I'd say dump the birds-eye perspective. This looks far too abstract. If you want something from above that's fine, but don't make it be straight down. Part of what makes a landscape recognizable as such is a receding perspective. You want to draw the elements on the top of your picture smaller than the ones on the bottom, and have the size vary linearly with the position. Making the water dirtier might be a good idea, but I think that if you can make it clear that it is water, and not air (or a textured background for an abstract) it will be sufficient to convey the swampiness of your picture.
