Description
January 16, 9 lb, 2 oz - A boy Child
I made this picture to Celebrate a dear friend's newest child. Several symbolic elements specific and personal to her and her family and work.
Trickiest was the lighting. It would have taken a lot longer than the 3 days I spent on setup without _dodger's excellent Dungeon Lighting props from DAZ. I used the candelabra and the glowing vial (visible in pic) and the votive candle (not visible from this angle, mother is holding it over baby, but I liked this angle better), the brazier (Not visible in this pic, but it's in the fireplace). I used a generic "Moonlight" exterior lighting, and added 2 low intensity spots to provide a bit more interior highlights, but 90% of lighting is from the pack. Final PZ3 was 120Meg, final render took 2 hours 23 minutes. Assembled in 5 Smaller PZ3s and imported one-by-one to assemble. This one I did about 4 minutes of quick post-work in PhotoStyler using the Burn-In and Dodge tools(PhotoShop 7 takes too long).
Credits; Besides _dodger's Dungeon Pack 1, I used a LoRes Vic, pieces from PhilC's excellent Elizabethans and Romantix packs, Maniak's Real Ogre, P4 Babies, PS MilGirl, DAZ MilDragons, DAZ MilBeard (Anton), Re-textured MilGirl clothes from PWFW, Misc scene props from BloodSong, Ernyoka1, Caleb, Graphon, LordsWarrior, 3DWorldz, and me. I did a few of the textures myself. The whole scene is assembled in another gem from Transpond, the Halfling House (view from the doorway, modified to look like a window).
My first interior rendering post.
***Note - 1/25/2003 I've re-rendered the pic and saved as BMP version due to excess artifact-ing, not converting to JPG until just before uploading - Many many thanks to Cris_Palomino and wdupre both for helping me recognize the problem and helping me figure out the solution***
Please post your opinions.

Excellent work! The complexity, depth, lighting, texturing,... are all wonderful. This is one of the best images I have ever seen here. Well done!!

Excellent work and a lovely way to celebrate the birth of a new baby! Bravo!!

this is great. so much detail. wow.

Chris Palomino - The large figure is a leather-troll looking in an arched window at the scene - part of the symbolism (Represents me, there, but not part of scene, as I'm 2000 miles away in real life) The quill the puzzled little house-drake (I'm) teasing has slung over it's shoulder is part of a visual pun - the friend who had the baby owns her own company named Pendragon (Get it; Pen-Dragon? Not tooo subtle, but it added a personal element - that's her pic hanging over the hearth as well) Thanks for all the lovely remarks! Cheers!

This is beautiful LG! You've obviously put a great deal of thought and care into its production. The composition is excellent and the lighting perfect. The friends in question must be very touched by this gift. BTW it looks clear enough to me.

This is a beautiful pic!

January 16 is a good day to be born on...:), It's mine and my twin brothers birthday.... What a lovely gift for the mother and child...So very sweet of you. Really Lovely image...
Cris_Palomino
My recommendation would be to render at a fairly large size (after all, someday you may want to print these beauties) and save it either as a PSD (photoshop) or TIFF file and bring into Photoshop or other imaging program and then save as a jpg from there. It will give you the opportunity to tweak things with levels/curves/saturation etc. and be able to see what the compression is doing to your image. Good luck. I look forward to seeing more of your work. I don't know what happened to my first post to you...lol...people will be wondering what I said.

Making the models is but one part of 3D graphics. Here you have shown with great imagination what can be done with them. This is no mere montage of magazine clippings but a skilled example of the art of composition and lighting.

It's a wonderful render!

NOTE Updated Picture on 1-25-2003 NOTE I realized the artifacting was worse that I had thought (lossy save from Poser, then a lossy re-save twice for postwork), so I updated an older PZ3 save and re-rendered as BMP until after Postwork and re-loaded to this page. This has sure been a learning experience for me - first the lighting, now a refresher in lossy formats G I want to say, I'm really grateful to CP and wdupre for helping me figure out the problem, and to everyone else for such wonderful kind remarks. If not for my Lossy screw-up I'd be getting quite a big head by now.

I really like the improvement. Gives an even greater clarity to it.

** Just noticed this - It looks like I (as original poster) can post multiple times, but any one else can only post once - it deletes their previous post. (Guess that's intended to cut down on trolling/harassment in Gallery) *****

Amazing work Jerry, I like the second version even better than the first!

SAMS3D
I like it, so much to look at, what a great picture.
catlin_mc
I didn't see the previous one but this is stunning. It is such a tender scene and even though you wouldn't naturally see dragons as tender, caring, creatures, I think this is a side of their nature that should be shown more often. 8)

I am so damn glad I clicked the link you posted. This is simply wonderful. Dammit, the perspective alone is worth the admission. Abso - fecking - beautiful. Lang may yer lum reek. Or something.
PapaBlueMarlin
Great use of perspective. You've added a lot of depth to your image :)

This rock, great job

This is a very complex image. I can't imagine how you got all the characters and props and lights to work together so well.
gagnonrich
Very cool! I'm not yet ready to attempt anything this complex. Not only do I not have the time, but I don't think I'm ready to pull off anything this good.
