I modeled the knife and mug after objects that really sit on my desk all the time. PLEASE tell me what you think so I can get beter. Enjoy...

ok, the mug seems too reflective, on the knife handle you can see polys, and what is really lacking is any form of shadow - the picture also seems to bright. Hope this helps

the modeling is done well but you might want to try using a caustic lighting effect on the glass to get better and more realistic lighting on the render but good work

I agree with powerhousegfx about the caustics, although Maya software doesn't support caustics (does it?). Also, try using a higher-res texture on the table, and yeah I guess just smooth out the knife handle a little bit. Great start though! Good luck with it.
