Description
Yes, lets hope great days will come. Even after that terrible accident today feb 1st 2003, we will continue right ?
NASA will be back, and the stars and stripes too, for the best, for Mars !

I am so sad, and pissed off too. A lot of what happened is the fault of NASA and american space policy. But it's not the place for critics here. Lets comment the pic: Mountains in the bacground with the purple sky is bryce5, the small hill where the astronauts stand is a particlized imagine object, stronauts are zmesh, rover model in LW7.5, final render trace in imagine IFW2.1.6 with some volumetrics.

thanks bobby. IFW2.1.6 or 2.1.8 does it really make a difference ?

Using particle (on not only bumpmaps) gives a very nice result on this hill. Joli !

oooops.....meant to write 2.17...re:disappearing objects. In 2.18 texturing is all screwed up so i don't use it,..I make objects now by deleting points in existing[mainly primatives or home made patches]objects and, instead of joining, group them together.I also select all faces[in face mode]and give each object a sub group name,ie:arm,or whatever so when all are eventually joined they will have accessable sub groups as well, saves a step later. If I really have to join all together for some reason,I do and save as !.iob,[because !.iob will appear at the top of where ever you put it so it's fast to find]in whatever dir opens, delete the original, now invisible, object and, reload !.iob,at which point i give the joined object a name....done...on to texturing all those existing sub groups...s'about it mate... peace bobby

The whole image is great, but what really strikes me is the quality of the hill where the astronauts stand. To use particles was a very good decision.

Thanks Nuno and Manuel, yes particle objects can be very useful in Imagine, for rocks like here, but also for grass or leaves. Use custom pre-made objects, with 6 or 8 edges for a leaf or a rock for example, when the basics cubes or spheres don't fit. Here I made a very high poly terrain, then random deleted some faces and applied the cube particles. Optionnally, the two version of the terrain, the one not particlized with full textures and the one particlized, can be superimposed for better results.

Another very nice mars picture Richard! I especially like the Haze effect, behind the Astronauts (Oh for volumetrics in IFA!) The particles are a very good idea for the rock strewn hill, as well.

Nice one!
