Description

Chess can be a trying game. It is relatively easy to learn and next to impossible to master. Today, most chess games are played with a clock. You have just so much time to make so many moves. It wasn't always like this, however. Before the chess clock was introduced, one ploy used by players (most especially players who were losing) was to sit, unmoving, until their opponent got tired of waiting and gave up. My two opponents are, however, VERY stubborn. Skeletons are the stock Poser skeletons. The chairs were a DAZ 3D freebie some time ago. The room is the SS Balcony by Silverleif Studios with the Verona for SS Balcony textures by Elusion. Both available at DAZ 3D. The table and chess set are by 3dmodelZ. This product is due for release sometime this month. For any of you who may be chess fans, the position on the board is from a famous game between the Danish Grandmaster Bent Larsen (playing white) and the, then, World Chess Champion Tigran Petrosian, Santa Monica, CA, 1966.

Nice modelling and a good idea. It will be even better when you adjust the lightning and put on som dirt textures.

I love the concept here. And the implementation is fun to see.

There are a couple of areas I think could do with a little work though. One is lighting - it appears you have used at least one ambient light, which has washed out all of your shadows. This has affected the depth perception in the image. Also, scale and context - the chairs seem somewhat large for the characters, and the chess pieces seem very tiny by comparison to the characters. The only other thing is the texturing on the background - it seems that some areas are in sharp focus and others are blurred, which, even if it was intentional, does tend to detract from the rest of the image.

Otherwise though, I've enjoyed viewing this one - it's good to see some creativity in composition. Thanks for sharing it.

You are mistaken, EBac2001. You forget about imagination. You don't have to create a real tree to appreciate nature. Nice work Paul. Do agree about some of the lighting comments.
