Description

3dsmax/Vray, Photoshop. Included the conceptual renders too, so you can see the evolution of the image :-) As suggested, changed the gondola's texture (original still can be seen above) and the water's color.

This is awesome as usual Nitro the only crit i can see is the boat. I think it should have wood panels on it, because that looks like they carved it right out of a tree. I dunno which you were going for, but it just doesn't seem to fit the scene.

Wonderful scene, details, composition, lightning and texturing! I agree a bit with Iced about the boat-texture, but this really is a high-quality render! Thanks for sharing the evolution too!

Thank you for the comments! Working on the gondola :-) I hate that thing... haven't been able to find a decent picture of it on the internet and have never seen a real one.

Wonderful image, but your first rendition of the water was more accurate--at least in 1998, it really was that green.

m6master: I think the AA is ok, there are only a couple of jagged egdes. If I set it higher, the textures would be quite blurry. It looks ok to me even at 1024x768, which is waaaay too low for working with graphics/printing. At 1280x1024 basically there are no problems. The worst is the shadow on the balcony's lower left side. I don't like foggy and smudgy looking textures, that's why I compromise and leave the AA the way it is. Thank you all for the comments!

Nice textures and lighting. The actual modeling is so and so. What i dont like about this picture is the water, it feels like a solid block with a non transparent texture with no diffuse map.

The gondola looks great. A sealed and lacquered boat doesn't show any wood grain at all. Search for gondola on google and check out the 'images' tab. Plenty of examples. Fantastic work.

This is gorgeous ...and I know what I'm talking about...have been to Venice twice. The water is quite ok ... not much green water in those canals :-) Lovely job Feri. Karin :-)

superb textures and a great concept. i'm a huge fan of your work (and a subscriber to CGW magazine, too - congrats! one complaint for them - they could have used ~10 more spreads for your work!)

Fantastic work!! Both the texturing and modeling are first class. Artistically speaking, I think the slightly green water shown in the conceptual render, though not accurate, was better for the color composition ;)

I fear I'm late, but since I live 30 km from Venice, I'm a little expert. I can assure you caught the Venice feeling very well... The gondolas are black, with metal pieces... (If you want some pics, maybe I can help...)
