I think you are right about the kind of mushroom. And they are very edible. A lovely photo.

It does look a lot like a King Bolete (Boletus edulis), which is supposed to be very tasty. [But I'd sure want the "expert" to take the first bite, and wait about an hour...] Nice picture, though!
