Description

This image was built and rendered in Carrara Studio 2. Two bulb lights and one spot light with soft shadows were used. The Left, right, center and HUD displays have image files and a .mov file mapped to them. The canopy is in the open position for now. I

oh..forgot one other thing (I'm sorry, this will be the last), a ring in between the legs for the ejection seat.

Modeling a cockpit is very difficult. I haven't attempted it yet because of the difficulty. You generally see it from such a close range that all the nuts and bolts are visible. But that's not the hard part, we've all done detailed scenes before. I think the tricky part has got to be that all of the parts have to fit together snugly and look as if they actually are bolted together and sealed. ( As opposed to just penetrating one another's surface -- a common manufacturing technique in computer 3d. ) I think you do a pretty darn good job of pulling it together. I like the detail of the cross-sections of the air-foil on the inside left of the cockpit. But, I assume that's the aircraft's skin creating the wall. Looks cool, but how would it handle the extreme temperature differences between space and re-entry? My real beef is with the shader on the exterior of the craft. It's killing me. You've done such a nice job with the modeling detail, but then wrapped up the ship with a shader that looks like all the values except for color are set to none. The dirt in the creases looks painted on, I think because of three things: 1.) Surface looks plastic. 2.) Panels don't have depth. 3.) Surface has Color, instead of Reflection & Highlight. Slap a better shader on the outside of this puppy and I think the image will improve 200 percent. BTW, nice clouds in this image : ) -Pix

Thanks pakled, shayhurs and Pix! for your added suggestions and comments. (I must be getting close to bring Pix out) Looks like I am on another quest to replace fix or lose my old textures and feel another learning curve coming on. The old "Gun-Ray" cockpit was being updated off and on at the same time as this one so I will be making the suggested changes to it as well. Please comment on both images when you see it updated again. Thanks you all again for taking the time to comment. -Pix. Thanks again for taking time out to check on me! :)

This is the same image with the new hull map added. I played with the bump and reflection channel to try and rough up the surface. The light on the canopy and side of the hull uses the sky as a Gel

Excellent glought. The surfaces and textues look perfect. The layout is both detailed and logical good attention to functionality. Although the armature of the stick looks like it could seriously hurt the pilot if they are not strapped in!
