I'm basically a hobbiest, I started with 3ds MAX R3, then R4 - but of course I can't afford 3ds MAX myself, so I'm going to be purchasing Cinema 4D R8 core - and it's looking pretty promising.
While I had access to 3ds, I messed around with making Morrowind mods - http://morrowind.preik.net (a few broken links to fix there...) and had a blast.

Hmmmmm, those shadows from the light grates are really distracting. This image is crying out for some radiosity. Nice modeling though.

I don't have access to GI - couldn't afford advanced rendering - but I can tone down the shadow density perhaps! Or possibly I could exclude the grates from shadow casting all together (and then add a hidden, much thinner grate even to cast some shadow?)

Maybe a bit of glow on the light bulb material, also if this is a square room you might be able to fake gi with low intensity area lights,

Yes I agree with DB 3D, some glow will be nice on the globes, have you only activate lum.-channel? Maybee also activate the colorchannel... ThanX for posting! ~{o;)

Ah that's probably it Fake - it is only a LUM, no Colour channel activated - I'll have to take a look at that. And I'll also exclude the grates from shadowcasting themselves
