Date Joined: 8 August 2002 Hello My name is Daniel O'Byrne, ÂÂ
The belief that a good photograph is the result of a good camera places the importance upon the equipment rather than upon the photographer. It emphasizes the machine rather than the man, the tool rather than the artist, the technology rather than the artistic intent. It is as if Monet had been told that the reason why his paintings were so beautiful was because he had such good paintbrushes. Or as if Paul Bocuse’s culinary excellence was explained away by his use of superlative pots and pans. Or again if Yo-Yo Ma had been informed that his Stradivarius was solely responsible for the stunning quality of his music.ÂÂ
One can be inspired and have an idea, be very creative in making this idea into a work of art, have developed the required level of craftsmanship, without the outcome of one’s efforts being motivated by the desire to follow a vision for one’s entire body of work. Vision is an overriding envelope that encompasses both inspiration and creativity. It is a blanket that covers the entire artist’s work, a blanket that often comes later in the life of an artist, after one has perfected one’s art and moved beyond the commonplace outcome that most artists have to go through. For this reason I placed vision as the third step of this process. I placed it there not because it comes necessarily at the end of the process but because in life it is often something that artists discover later on.
ÂÂ
Certainly, a master needs a masterful instrument, be it a camera, paintbrushes, pots and pans or a violin, as in my examples, or other tool, since this list can be expanded to include many other professions. But to say that the quality of the art is caused solely by the quality of the instrument is to miss the point altogether about the importance of the artist. It is missing the point about the human factor, about the man or the woman that actually made use of this instrument. After all, art is made by artists and not by tools. Tools are inanimate objects that need someone to set them in motion. And to set a tool in motion so that art is created through the use of this tool, an artist is needed.

Excellent work my friend! I'm starting to doubt America as being so technologically advanced, that's just what the media wants us to believe danob, the truth is we suck!

The thing about the internet and connections is that it's so inequitable. Here I live in a hick town in Tennessee and have no trouble getting DSL and Tommy can't get a connection through MSN who should have a better set up than some of these other companies. Oh well, back to the art work...Danny, you alwyas hit the nail on the head when you express what is happening in the world through your art. Every image is a seamless entry into the overall composition and there is no doubt that that your artistic genius is manifest here and throughout your gallery. Excellent work Danny!

One of the inexplicable paradox's concerning technology is that it seems the deeper we tread into knowledge - coupled with tangible invention - the further we get from actually knowing anything, and being able to apply what's learned to everyday life for the betterment of humankind. This wonderful composition displays the intelligence and mental aptitude within your skills as a graphics artist Danny, and to be able to produce with uncanny ability, images that take such contradictory world events described in many picturesque oratories - and successfully and accurately convert them to breath-taking imagery always paramount to the epoch of topic. Such effective competence on your part Danny is what true artistry is all about. I love the @ symbol representing World-wide Internet communication, which is actually almost redundant when one realized just how many who live in a supposedly technologically advanced country are fortunate to have a 28.8 connection to places considered 3rd world class, and who have DSL. Lovely work - and truly insightful.

Superbly done again Dan!! How you get these creative ideas is one thing but the delivery of the imagery is always spot on!!

Fantastic!!

Once again, incredible insight ... the people standing in line evoke a feeling of animals in a herd, each one following the other aimlessly ... like computers, until someone flips the switch and turns them on/wakes them up. I really believe that the WWW has an energy and lifeforce of it's own, created by all those that feed it, collectively, and manifested it. Kinda' scary when you think about it, and I have to wonder how big it's gonna' get and what it's gonna' turn into. Kinda' like "The Matrix." :-)

I hear that inculcate is going fortissimo while promulgate is being requested to pianissimo. Some LISP programmers are over their heads while real hardware cronies fight for their lives in darkness. Electrons can do math as positron decays though they prefer to just show their spectra.
