45 mins to render on a P4 1.3 and half a gig of ram and still dosent look right arghh *venting*

What's wrong with raytrace :) Glass is very nice though. I know your feeling... I made a scene once, including nothing more than a drumkit, radiosity and some volume light. Guess how long? 6,5 hours with AMD 1,5 Ghz, 640 MB ram

That render would take a day if you used bryce... The glass looks great, but the shadow needs a caustics effect.

But your render is perfect !!! In fact the problem is the effect of environment: you can have real render if you use hdri or if you represent the environment surroundind the glass (modellise the complete house or castle or...). But of course the render time will grow up !

you should tryout the amd 433 mhz processor and 256 ram i have to work with, youll fall in love with your machine all over again. i found glass never looks right untill you atleast put a surface beneath it, try a wood grain on the table once, i bet itll look great.
