Description

I know it's been done before, but I read a magazine article, and it inspired this picture. Apparently a young mum of 28 is among those who have been called up and shipped out from the UK, even though she has a two year old son, and is not a member of the regular army. She is in the TA. The child has been left at home with grandparents, because his father is a member of the regular army and could be called up any time. But how comes part time volunteer soldiers are being called up before the ragulars who's job it is?

I hear lots of mummys and their two year old children are going to die when Iraq is carpet bombed. This does not mean I do not have sympathy for this young woman and her family, it is just one case of the hypocrisy and idiocy of this pointless war.

Carpet bombed?!? Well, never let reality intefer with sloganeering. Most likely the reason she will be called up is that she is in a job speciality that is short staffed in the regular army. It is a shame but if you take the army's penny in peace time it is a possibility you face.

Very striking image (no pun intended). You managed to convey the duality between the Eros and Thenatos impulses, that many of us are facing in these troubled times. Thenatos, in ascendency, its blood lust can only be slaked by death; yet, Eros reminds us all of our humanness. Well done Pam.
