Well, after looking over the pic I decided to make some changes. Let me know what you guys think :)

I like both of them, but this one does have more detail. You didn't mention it, but I'm assuming that the pod was made out of metaballs. It's an awesome model, and I especially like the green lighting effect. If your still looking for suggests. How about some tiny colored lights around the head area of the passenger to give it a little more of a mechanical look.

In this version the ship becomes a separate entity and attracts attention on its own.the first one seems more appealing for the message you want to project . it had a lot more human attributes, you could say that it comes from Earth, so it drew attention to the Earth. I like the Earth from this version, although I'd put a bit less blackness and evenly distribute the dirt, a bit in every part, for harmony.( only my opinion though
