Description

Here is a view of the stern of the same transport. It shows the lighting running the length of the cargo section along with the glow of the engines. There was a comment on the IML about the engine glow. Here is how I did it. The glow is simply a primitive sphere, scaled in the Y axis to flaten is about 75%. It was also scaled in the X axis to make it an oval (to fit the opening). I then made the object a fog object and give it radial fall-off with the distance just barely smaller than the object. I give the object a hot center, tweaking the value until I get the look I want. I then make the object a light source with y-axis controlled fall-off and scale the y-axis until the light reaches as far as I want it to. By using states, I can animate the glow to 'turn on' as the engines are activated. The first state has the fog fall-off distance set to 0.000001 and the light intensity set to 0. The second state has the fog fall-off set to the size of the object and the light intensity set to 255. It's very effective when you tween between the two.
