Description

-- "The Hobbit" book cover illustration -- For my latest illustration/graphics assignment we are supposed to design the cover, a chapter intro (two page spread with illustration), and a poster promoting the book of our choice - mine being "The Hobbit". All of the illustrations are limited to black and white. The dwarves will wrap around the binding and fade into the summary. The only bad part is that the emphasis of this project is a quick deadline - we only have one week to complete it I realize that Tolkien art is an extremely popular (especially recently) and often overdone theme, but I just wanted to have a little fun with one of my favorite childhood books. Ink and Prismacolor marker ~ 4 hrs Thanks for your comments!

awesome. JRR wasn't ever happy with others' illustrating his books but I bet he would have considered favourably this work of yours :)

Whew, I was pretty sure I got all 13 dwarves plus one hobbit/theif (avoiding any superstitious numbers). I never really considered how big of a traveling party it was until I drew it out. I'd like to have Gandalf in this image, but he's off fighting the Necromancer in this part of the story. He'll definetly be in the chapter introduction illustration though. Thanks for the comments everyone!
