Description

You can't learn anything unless you practice! :) I used a picture of Alexis Bledel (Rory from "Gilmore Girls") as a basis for this one. (here is the link for the real picture - http://www.allstarz.org/~alexisbledel/galleries/mag/more/32.jpg) Mind you - by no means can I paint like this without having a picture right in front of me to explore and look on. :) This was the ONLY reason this painting turned out like that. My mom thinks it's not really "art", because it wasn't something I thought about - I just coppied the picture. But I think it was a pretty good practice. And I NEED practice. :)Either way, I thought I'd post it here. Thanks for viewing. :)

It is often quite amusing how people figure that art is some kind of special gift that we're either born with or not. Art - like any other occupation or vocation is the sum of practice, patience and perseverance. No matter how experienced an artist is - if they were told to draw a picture of a 'gazzeebleplunk' - they would not begin to know how; having never seen a 'gazzeebleplunk'. Artistry is either a case of creation, interpretation, and/or distortion, and no matter the genre, each requires study and the three "P's" mentioned above. In order to render the human face and/or figure accurately, one must copy from real life or at least a photo. You have done an excellent job here. Remember, even Leonardo daVinci sketched his figures from life - in other words - he copied, as did Michaelangelo, and most of the great masters. Keep up the 'practice' my friend - you will excel with every new painting.

It's a good effort. The likeness of her is good, especially the mouth. The cheekbones needs more work. But overhall is good. And I do love GGirls. More Lorelai than anyone else ;)

A very fine image you have managed to capture all the important aspects very well! Jason comments are spot on.. Also painting is your own world you can do whatever you wish.. As sometimes we can recreate some of the faults in the image as well as the Photographer may have used too harsh front lighting which can blot out some of the detail in the highlights. Keep em coming its a wonderful start!!

Dam fine job, a little work on that right arm is needed, O and tell your mom almost all artist use a ref of some kind for their work. Even the old Dutch masters used studies "skeched" on the canvas before they appied paint. but not all of them some like Rembrandt just painted. Anyway keep it up and if u have trouble just ask one of us for some pointers.

I recognized her, and I've never watched the show...just seen her in promos, interviews, etc. I won't go through the whole "What is Art?" thing, Duchamp, Warhol, etc. It's practice and it looks nice, so thanks for sharing it.

Every great art lesson I ever got was from copying! I'm with Racin Jason on this one, Artistry is an aquired skill, aquired through study, copying and practice, this is excellent work!

I agree with all that was said above, practice. I can't paint/draw to save my life. Well I do it anyhow! :) Just because I hope to get better with every image that I do! There is no shame in photo references, never think otherwise!

I'm sorry I missed this one when it was posted, but better late than never. I really like this a lot and you did a great job on the likeness. I recognize her right away. Portraiture is an art in itself, because you paint what you see and that is where the artistic quality comes in. It's also great practice as you noted. Fantastic work and keep it up...
