Date Joined: 8 August 2002 Hello My name is Daniel O'Byrne, ÂÂ
The belief that a good photograph is the result of a good camera places the importance upon the equipment rather than upon the photographer. It emphasizes the machine rather than the man, the tool rather than the artist, the technology rather than the artistic intent. It is as if Monet had been told that the reason why his paintings were so beautiful was because he had such good paintbrushes. Or as if Paul Bocuse’s culinary excellence was explained away by his use of superlative pots and pans. Or again if Yo-Yo Ma had been informed that his Stradivarius was solely responsible for the stunning quality of his music.ÂÂ
One can be inspired and have an idea, be very creative in making this idea into a work of art, have developed the required level of craftsmanship, without the outcome of one’s efforts being motivated by the desire to follow a vision for one’s entire body of work. Vision is an overriding envelope that encompasses both inspiration and creativity. It is a blanket that covers the entire artist’s work, a blanket that often comes later in the life of an artist, after one has perfected one’s art and moved beyond the commonplace outcome that most artists have to go through. For this reason I placed vision as the third step of this process. I placed it there not because it comes necessarily at the end of the process but because in life it is often something that artists discover later on.
ÂÂ
Certainly, a master needs a masterful instrument, be it a camera, paintbrushes, pots and pans or a violin, as in my examples, or other tool, since this list can be expanded to include many other professions. But to say that the quality of the art is caused solely by the quality of the instrument is to miss the point altogether about the importance of the artist. It is missing the point about the human factor, about the man or the woman that actually made use of this instrument. After all, art is made by artists and not by tools. Tools are inanimate objects that need someone to set them in motion. And to set a tool in motion so that art is created through the use of this tool, an artist is needed.

If this were not such a sad statement of disastrous 'truth' - I would likely be very amused. However - this image boldly states that our lakes, rivers and ponds are all becoming so polluted as to not support our marine life. The sky is trying to purify everything but too much damage from man has descended upon our forests and waterways. I love the purity of the glass fish bowl and the poor tiny goldfish forced to live as a prisoner in it - (its only real safe haven). Just yesterday, an alligator was seen threatening a young child here in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada - why - because some thoughtless individual tired of their exotic pet and released it into a residential area pond. Pollution comes in many flavors, and it can sometimes strike back if not bite. Well done Danny - excellent work.

It is an excellent work...!! what they impress me is the spectacular effects of light that there is in the sky, and the transparency of the fishbowl..!! the reflections of the water contribute another element of great interest to the design..!!

Many thoughts so I ad mine. We always think it is better somewhere else and can't read the danger signs anyway. Most times, where we are is as good as it gets. Very good composition and use of light to create distance and mood.

We Can't leave all the life in a bubble .... Let's the fish be free, if he is mischievous he will survive !

I don't know what is better: a shorter life in freedom or a longer life in safe "prison" ... but does freedom exist? Wonderful details, colors and light! Excellent artwork again!

When lies are glass, good and evil shimmer on the two sides of an unsearchable void.

I agree with Borsy .... Not only is your work well executed and carries your very unique style, it also evokes powerful feelings. Very Well Done My Friend !!!!!

For me - It represents Isolation - Human existance seems very similar - Even though we can physicly stand out in a wide open space - Our Soul is contained - Isolated - within - Much like the fish in the bowl - And - Just as fragile - When the bowl breaks - The fish will be released to swim freely - So rests the fait of Our Souls - Stimulating Imagery - Excellent execution - Super Surrealistic -

Stiking image - full of power and thought provoking! Does the goldfish feel entirely safe - watching the world from the precarious position that he finds himself involved in? It certainly prods the ivory tower academics into thinking about real danger! Wonderful!

I can say nothing that hasn't already been mentioned above, but I will add that you work is some of the most unique at blending imagery and themes. Well done Danny :-)
