Okay, this is kind of a postmortem. I'm not too happy with this so I will discuss what I think went wrong. I made the picture as a gag gift for my girlfriend...she's a fan of Mandy Moore and also Britney Spears' sworn enemy, which I consider pretty ironic. On with the analysis: 1. Technical issues: this is my first "real" attempt at drawing in Flash, and I don't do caricatures often enough. But the caricature would have looked much better if I'd chosen any number of popular politicians... 2. Choice of subject: I think this is a big problem. Mandy Moore doesn't have any noticeable flaws. In fact I don't think she has any noticeable features at all. After studying some photos I found that she has a pretty large lower lip, a bit of a baby face, and she tends to look pretty shiny. I tried to exagerrate these things, but I didn't have much luck (which is where more practice in caricatures would help). The worst thing about her is that she is a real chameleon. In her photos she ranges from Britney clone to glamour queen to farmer's daughter. Her hairstyle has completely changed and even before that she looked different from one photo to the next. Her eyes and her lower lip seem to change size at will! Definitely a tough subject. Anyway, any other suggestions or critiques are very much welcome. I want to continue practicing caricatures, if I can find the time.
