Description
I was just experimenting with natural environments today and this was a test render that I thought turned out ok. Modeled and rendered in MAX 4.2 using Vray free edition. using HDRI (no lights 1.5 hr render time) The trees were made with Treemaker 5.0 (pretty nifty plug-in)...Hills were a displaced mesh using a greyscale map I did in Photoshop. The grass is a simple spline shape extruded then used the scatter to place it...30,000 blades of grass... and the nearly 200,000 leaves brought my 1.33 gig machine to its knees....but heck it was fun....Suppose I coulda optimized it a bit but like I said its an experiment. Feel free to comment away....

I think the trees could be a bit bigger when I look at the grass, but wow! Great grass! And lovely colors too!

you have made greate use of the grass I must say. I had 40 000 blades of grass per square meter (lawn though). I tried a render with 2.8 million straws once. bad idea! well anyway it's a nice render =)

Wow!! Well, trees have a bit strange branch shape, but ground/grass is one of best!

The grass and foliage look great, not too sure about the tree trunks though, but I'll look out for that tree maker.
