My real name is Thomas McCann, I was born in Buffalo N.Y. in October 1952. I currently reside in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia U.S.A.,........I attended the Maryland School of Art and Design and studied Fine and Commercial art. I began working in traditional media at age 7 (mainly pencil sketches), then worked with watercolors and arcylics in high school. I started working with digital media about 11 years ago (1996), using Metacrations "Detailer", a 3D paint application. I currently use mainly Bryce 6.1 and Cinema 4D 8.1 and 3D Studio Max 4.2 for modeling and tweaks. I am currently learning Rhino and Zbrush. Thanks for your attention.

You know what I really like about this, its your ability to convey the sense of "ocean swell" to the image. I could almost feel the rolling decks. Nice job! -jay

Excellent scene and composition, well done
Flycatcher
Well composed - the eschewing of true horizontals gives a great feeling of being at sea. Fine work.

Excellent, great POV and wave effects! Gives a real feel of first rates at sea! Aft, the men of most honour, forward the better men!

As I have mentioned to others using Hankster's Victory, stop using all the flags on all the masts. Really only one flag per mast. And only in the presence of foreign ships. Like in the navies today, flags were flown only when near foreign ships for "friend or foe" idenification, or going into battle, or entering/exiting harbor. At sea, none are flown. Also, a swell that large presages a storm, so canvas would be reduced to bare minimum, one main course per mast, a jib on the jibboom, and the spanker on the mizzen, or last mast. Otherwise, the wind would "tear the sticks outta her", or pull the masts overboard. Also, where is the spray of water thrown up by the bow of the ship? Also, close the gunports, in a sea of this size, they would be shut tight to prevent water swamping the ship through the ports. Also, the crewman's uniform is modern, not 18th century. Also, the officer and crewman are too big, reduce them down, remember, the ship's boats they are standing next to are up to 35ft long. Check your scale. As I have mentioned to others: research, research, research....

I think this is very good, not all art have to be exactly as it would be in real life. art is the freedoom as to create how you see things, not how a camera would see things. I think the picture is a very good marine one.. Benny

I love this. I can't see anything wrong with it. Art doesn't have be to exact fact. Actually it doesn't even have to make sense in most cases. Yeah, it's nice to know the boring facts about ships LOL! blah blah blah... But youv'e found something more important, making your work the way YOU want it. Don't let anyone tell you how to do your art. I salute you. Excellent work, this looks magnificent!

Wow!! FitArtistSF is quite the "Blow-hard"! I'll be sure to NEVER do an image with those models! I checked out his gallery...nothing! Just a couple renders of his modeling of old ships like this. Clearly his underwear is too small, or maybe something in them? ANYWAY! I love this image! The POV is dramatic, very cinematic! And I love the play of light and shadow over this very detailed model. I even love the commander that seems to be sucking on a lemon drop? Excellent image! Despite what HE thinks! ;)
