Description

Modelling/render: Strata 3D Pro 3.71 Post work (resizing, border): Ulead PhotoImpact 8 Recently, 3D World Magazine did a review on the usability of about 8 3D programs, one of them being Strata. The reviewer, new to the applications hew as testing (hoepfully) tried to create as much of the above scene in 45 minutes; he got as far as the orange, cup, spoon and plate, but no textures or lighting. Rendering was an extra. So, I figured I'd give it a shot. The above scene was modelled, textured, and Lit (GlowDome.. image based lighting.. no other lights) in 45 minutes. The whole shebang. Only the placemat texture and the table texture were premade, everything else was from scratch. Rendering was about 16 minutes, radiosity, of course.

Much better than their effort. I considered having a go in Bryce but I've already made everything except the spoon.

Here's a perfect example of why I so respect your work Howie - with your vast store house of knowledge with various 3D software - you're able to accomplish in 45 minutes what would take most others far longer - and with less impressive results than what you achieve. I am simply awed and amazed at how you create glass and reflections. Your metallic objects LOOK metallic, your glass IS glass, and your subjects all look real, yet with a wonderful artistic touch. Such cannot be denied because it takes an artistic eye to achieve the desired results just in producing a pleasant and aesthetically pleasing composition. This render is in perfect balance. Great stuff my friend!
