With the sun as high as it is, I can't see why the foreground would be as dark as it is. Apparantly, the mouth of the stream meets at an open pond or lake in the background, but the reduction of light from there inward to the viewer seems too great. The mid-ground trees on either side of the bank are not small, and they do not cover the stream, yet there is not enough light coming through from above to the stream or banks, even though the leaves of those trees are so bright from the sun and sky above that they lose detail. The composition, colors, and detail are wonderfully conceived and rendered, though. But some dapple highlights along the banks and a bit more than that in the stream would make a big difference.
