Description

*ARGH!* I'm posting this mostly to vent, but.... Long story: At the last administration change in the (historic, politically charged) city of Annapolis, MD, USA (state capital, by the way) it was decided that the mayor would adopt a different symbol for our official "trademark"(?) The symbol desired only existed in *TINY* thumbnail-sized hardcopy, and thus looked particularly crappy (see inset #1). As a city employee, and being the somewhat CorelDRAW savvy sort that I am, I took the opportunity to *recreate* the symbol from scratch assembling pieces of clipart (they were all there). I didn't really initially consider the fact that the crown was *specifically* supposed to represent that of Queen Anne, and didn't know my clipart representation was something akin to King Edward's or something. They wanted to continue to use the crappy representation because of this, rather than doing some earnest research to find the correct assembly of pieces, and despite the fact that the crown on their crappy version explicitly conflicts with that codified because gemstones are described in number and colour in the code. After reviewing the code, I came up with what you see here in the main image, including the crown that is currently on our official flag, and which I have been informed is indeed the correct crown, as well as including a Tudor rose sent to me by a contact in the UK responsible for webdesign of the site for "the Tudor Rose Inn" (or some pub of similar name). Inset #2 represents what the administration is going to use henceforth, as far as I can see, even though it is in direct conflict with the codified symbology of the city. I hope Queen Anne isn't turning over in her grave. Please find the one-paragraph description in the code at the following link, judge for yourself, and feel free to leave comment ridiculing me or our administration for our opposing views. Cheers..
