Description
The longest single-image render I've ever done. Silly me forgot to check when it was finished, but I'd estimate around 24 hours for 1280/960. Only a 4 layer surface map this time, but very high half-heights, high cloud altitude, high cloud detail, 2550% sun strength etc made this take a long time.
I'd love to hear what you think. PS I know the clouds suck, you don't have to tell me :)

yeah, the middle portion of the image is wonderful esp the water and reflection.

Agree with kate about water & reflection. Surface map is excellent given the resolution. With such a bright sun I'd set both sun & corona size to zero, and adjust glow amount/power to reduce the "white out" effect on the left hand side. I would also avoid the high cloud detail setting as any improvements to the clouds are rarely worth the much longer render times it causes.

Low 3D clouds give these strange shapes... you should prefer higher clouds, or 2D. Light and rays are great, and terrain interesting. You should also reduce glow power and amount.

sun size is 0.1, I think corona was normal - will reduce it for my next image. the clouds are actually at 450 iirc - trying them at 1000 for next image. I did try 2D clouds but they just looked really flat and uninteresting. It's hard to get clouds to look good with such extreme light settings, I think. The terrain is generated in Terragen with a 'bound heights' from -1 to 5. The funny froth around the edge of the water is 3 layers of sortasurf - not sure if you can layer it or not yet - all three layers seem to share the same settings.
