She danced to get away...away from her mom that drank too much...away from her father that was angry too often...away from the kids that made fun of her...away from the everyone that turned their heads, not seeing her bruised soul...away from the miserable life she was born into ... away ... away ... so far away.

macabre. The "goth" look on a kid in this age range doesn't inspire empathy, which, judging by the text, is what the artist is hoping to arouse. Some of the shadowing (like the one on the shoulder) doesn't read as shadow--perhaps it's a smear of dirt?
