Hhe saw the man walking with the typical, anxious 'take-her-to-dinner-and-maybe-dancing-after' face. He took note of the bouquet the man was holding behind his back and thought: 'Her house has to be very near.' A little pang of nostalgia grabbed him, but passed immediately, leaving just a trace of old perfume.
