Photoshop/Painter/Vue
Spike, himself, was painted in Photoshop 6 from a blank canvas and no tracing. The background was rendered in Vue and FX added in Painter to make it seem more painted. The two were then recomposited in Photoshop where the frame and the signature was added.
I had a lot of trouble with his hair. Platinum and curly made for a difficult combination. More practice on that.

Fantastic work!! Like gallimel I have seen Spike also. This looks just like him, the likeness is nothing short of amazing!! It is obvious that you put a LOT of work into this image, gets my vote!!

There are times when I almost dread seeing you have posted a new render Shadow my friend; and before you write me a nasty letter complaining about my wry statement - let me justify its intent. Most of the portraitures you do are unfamiliar to me which of course is no fault of yours, and like you said to me once before - "I should get out more"...lol. The second fear is that you well know I am in both awe and respect of your artistic skills, (not to mention your technical ones as well) - but every time I offer you my sincere heartfelt praise and accolades - you write and humbly shoot them down - as if your work were undeserving. So this time around my dear friend - you best accept my compliment and not try to throw it off as if undeserved. One of the most compelling aspects of all your renders that I am in love with is your bold use of color, which has both a fantasy yet realistic look, and secondly - your hand painting skills are something I admire greatly. Keep the excellent work coming Shadow - your skills are deeply appreciated - oh, and I vote for this, even if I don't know who he is...lol.

It eats into the bloodcurdling shadows in the pose and tosses out features to define an almost pristine likeness.

Shadow...this is wonderful and so perfectly realistic. I think there (for Buffy fans) has always been a facination with Spike...in the beginning it was his evil nature that worked the show into a frenzy, but then though a series of events, the good side of him came through. His loss over the love of his life (or probably more accurate) the love of his death despite the fact they were vampires was very touching because it spoke to vulnerability. You have captured us once again with this marvelous portrait. His jawline is great as are those eyes. I love the colors you employ and even though his hair is somewhat curly on the show, I've seen him on talk shows where it looked very much the way you have painted it here. I continue to learn from you with every image...with every portrait. Your work is flawless!
