Description

The forest nymphs were very worried. The woodcutters had been chopping down the trees and their world was getting smaller each and every day. As more and more trees disappeared, the nymph's magic was being exposed to the sun and was dissipating. If they didn't do something soon, they would lose all their magic and become extinct. There were very few of them left now and losing even one of them would be a tragedy. The Stone of Wisdom called the nymphs for a special meeting. The Stone told them that their only hope was to move to a deeper forest, father away than they had ever been. They would need to move as far north as the mountains would allow them to go. They were very upset at the news. Their kind had been in these forests forever. The debate was heated and emotions were strong. "Stone of Wisdom, how can it be that we shall have to leave? We have been here since the beginning. The nymphs have always looked after the forest. We can't just leave!" "You must. The forest has learned much from you. You have done well to protect them. But it is now time for things to change, whether we want them to or not. You can't survive here. You can't adapt. The forest may not be able to adapt to the woodcutter's axes either, but your lives are in jeopardy. You need to survive. You will someday come back here to nurture and cultivate the forest once again, but it will be long after the woodcutters exist no more. The forests will need you then. But for now, things must change. I'm afraid nothing ever stays the same. Ever." "But how can we leave our forest? How will it survive without us?" "This forest may not survive, but you must. You must go at sundown and travel the way of the ancients. You must travel as quickly as you can and get to the Forrest of North before the sun steals all the magic you have left. Go now, all of you and prepare for the journey." "Shall we take you with us, Stone of Wisdom?" "Yes, and you shall bring your children and wives. Also, you will bring your closest animals. Bring only those who are aware. Leave the innocents behind. Quickly, go and prepare my children, for it is getting close to sundown!" Try as they might, the nymphs just couldn't believe what they were being told. They felt such a loss, such sadness. They took a while to discuss the preparations, knowing that a time that had always been here, would now be gone forever. The change was just beginning. Rendered in Bryce5. Postwork in PSP7.
