he should be a little more careful next time to where he swings that butcher knife, course, without his hand anymore he shouldn't have to worry bout chopping it off again.

Sorry you feel so strongly Calanthe! It is the picture for the cover of a fantasy role playing adventure about a murderous butcher...It is posted under the "Horror" category. By the way, what news broadcasts do you watch if you get to see dismembered limbs and gore!?

That's a low ranking to give, the ranking is about the artwork and how it was executed, I don't think it was designed to voice opinions about gore and violence. Anyway I digress. The specularity maps and bumps could use some work, but this is a great image. I ranked it accordingly. :)

Yeah, texturing needs work - bump and diffuse maps spring to mind for the hand, sausages and log. The reflection on the knife is way off as well. Still I like it, good work.

Thanks for the positive comments and technical criticism. I really rushed the picture to meet a deadline and it only appears in a small inset so it was more an impression than a perfect photorealism I was going for. As to the "negative" comments, I think that en emotional response is actually a compliment. After all, art is supposed to evoke a respose, be it good or bad. Thanks for you time.

I think it's a good pic - not exceptional - but good. The blood is well done, and looks like it has just begun to dry rather than being bright red all the way through. I'm giving it an "excellent" rather than a "good", however, just to balance the troll's ranking, because there's nothing I hate more in the galleries than trolls.

i am following tuttle's lead. bunch of new folks barging through this site, and doing their best to impose their own moral limits on the rest of us. the hand texture could use a good bit more work, though. and next time you model and render...please chop up a troll :*)

I not raking this(I never do unless it's exceptional), but it is a good picture ( although saying that it is "Modelled and rendered in 3ds max 5" is a lie as the hand and figure are poser items, all and all a good pic though.

odeathoflife: Point taken about the Poser elements and text for the picture changed accordingly. Saying that I had lied though is a bit harsh!
