Having read the forum thread about the pic, I'm almost reluctant to say anything negative about it, but... The lighting is wrong. Assuming this is a medieval type pic, there should really be only one light source for outdoors, since there would be no extremely bright lights other than the sun. A bump map on the horse and ground would help a lot, too. Everything else looks good to me, but I believe the few changes I mentioned could make a very good pic an excellent pic.

Samtherapy is right -- wow, for once too many shadows. Except for that, I occasionally do the cheap and easy way out and color correct in Photoshop to meld lighting probs. There s nothing wrong with the composition though, that's superb and the quality of emotion on her face is sublime.
