Description

Another rough character sketch - don't ask me how I'm going to achieve anything similar in 3D though... There'll be many Raku in my short film, although you mainly see The Trinity, which is their leader - made up of three of them, with a collective mind. Without giving too much away, the Toads avoid them due to fear of their appearance... but the Raku are actually quite benign. Anyway... more 3D to follow when I'm happy with it...

this is soo cool!! oh man, i honestly can't wait to see those guys in action!!! It would be awsome if their bodies were in constant action, with the swarms of fractal spirals. This totally reminds me of something you would see in a tool video or something you would hallucinate while on acid, listening to tool :)

Yes their textures will be animated, and will have fractals in them, funnily enough - i was a fractal that inspired their design in the first place... I'm using Cinema 4D's "Gobo" functions to project patterned lights onto their skin in isolation to the lighting in the rest of the scene - it makes for a weird effect...

Love this image...but I think you know that! The more I look at it, the more fascinating it becomes! Just how did you do that?? :)

It's really easy to replicate this technique if you want to. You need Fractal Design Painter - just roughly sketch out the shape you want with coloured paints, and use the "drag" and "spiral drag" brushes over and over, using different sizes. I added a few of the highlights using the "lighten" tool, and that's about it... there are no clever filters or textures going on...

This is very well done. An excellent style, a wonderful execution and a great idea :)

What an imagination! This guy reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe some art I saw back when i was a little kid. Kinda creepy.
