One suggestion I would give is make a thumbnail for people to see what the picture "poison" or whatever the name might be is. I also, am not that experienced, but what I found to be the most help is sketching what you want to do on a picture ... possibly even scanning it ( front, left, right, top, and bottom views sketched ) and then selecting them as viewport backrounds and making the picture.
