Description

::: Part 36 of a series of Warbird Panorama Photos ::: Taken at the Planes of Fame Airshow 2003 - May 16 (Preshow), 17, and 18 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Planes of Fame Airshow 2003 images now online at http://www.warbirds.n3.net --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Planes are two F-16 Vipers (I just found out recently that they renamed them from the F-16 Falcon to the F-16 Viper!) and a F/A-18 Super Hornet (note the F-14 like intakes). I watched the F-16s come in on the 16th (this photo was taken less than a hour after they landed) 'escorted' by a P-51 Mustang from WW2. The F-18 Super Hornet would later go on to fly a Navy Tail Hook Legacy flight with a F4U Corsair and a F8F Bearcat. One of the F-16 Vipers would later go on to fly with a P-51 Mustang (World War 2) and a F-86 Sabre (Korean War) in a classic heritage flight and conclude with a full tactical demo. This panorama is made up of 6 images. Panorama taken with a Minolta Dimage 7hi and resized in photoshop (also slightly color corrected). Sorry for all the watermarks, just playing it safe with a giant sized image such as this.

Great job on the paonorama...I didn't notice the intakes until I read it (what's the deal with that?), and a Viper?? never knew that either. Wonder why they would change the name after so many years?

I'm not sure about the Viper (very strange isn't it?), but the reason the Hornet has F-14 intakes is because it's the upgrade of the regular Hornet. The Super Hornet is something like 2-4 feet longer than the original F-18, and I guess they figured the intake of the F-14 would help improve speed.
