Portrait of a Tender Heart by: Robin Minick Sunday, June 01, 2003 Watching you close your eyes against the last inkling of hope, I saw upon their lids a brand of grace uncommon to the robbers of your soul. I knew then, the cowards failed in breaking you; and all you needed was rest and an aly. I found you to contain the beauty of night and shadows and the feared unknown things that only they would shun. You walked on both sides of the moon to greet the sun, and finding you I'd realized my journey'd only begun. I used to shy away from the dimness and the dark; superstition stayed my gate. Now at this dusk, where neither shadow nor light fall, I'll guard you while you sleep as you guarded me so many years, and I'll hasten to dry up all your weary tears..kissing your graceful lids I'll bar away those robbers of your soul..my tender heart.
