Two messages I followed in the late 70's were. "When that time comes you must look inside the scroll." and "my watch has no hands." I think this is a message to a son like "Someday you'll be just like me" or "someday you'll be a man." It has the look of whipped dough in a loaf slightly burnt on the top.
