Description
Without wearing any mask we are conscious of, we have a special face for each friend.
~Oliver Wendell Holmes ~
I was fortunate enough to have meli allow me to play with her image, and for some reason,
after seeing all the beautiful ways she has been manipulated here,I admit I was struggling.
I dont really make anything look beautiful. I see an image and although it may start out
as a thing of beauty, somehow it ends up strange. I wanted to give a shot at a mask in this
one. And thought, why would we need to have a mask. or better yet, maybe we were contemplating
the thought of one. This is not a suggestion that mali will need a mask, this isnt how i see her at all.
She just happens to be the model( so no hate mail pleaseee). Her inner beauty is so wonderful that
her outer beauty naturally beams through. This isnt about beauty either. Its about what we hide
or cover up. Not just the outer flaws, but the inward ones. Fears,hate,jealousy...we can put a pretty
little face on, pretend to care,be something we are not. but the only thing thats holding it in place
is a tiny ribbon, that is sure to not hold securely. Sooner or later it will begin to slip. Sooner or
later, someone will see what is underneith. The question is.. whether to drop the mask, or put it
on again. and again,and again.

lovely. it's quite how I see meli, in an entirely different way from the one you describe about her needing a mask. I'll start being original, right about now, and stop.

meli has a way of looking through the masks of others even with her own imperfections showing-this is what i am seeing here in this fantastic image you have created- wonderfully thought out & composed!! also if i may add, people draw their own perceptions of others they have met & create the "mask" for them- what they want that person to mean to them as well- well done! :]

BRILLIANT!!!!.... The way we imagine ourselves to appear to another person is an essential element in our conception of ourselves. In other words, I am not what I think I am, I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am.

How could Meli get mad at something so beautiful and true? Your image and your words make such an impact, that the longing to let go of all masks that we have, outer and inner, grows strong. Cynlee puts the words so well about Meli and this precious work of art. The grace and power of your image impresses me.

It's a wonderful piece this one. Even if 'piece' is not a good enough word for it, of course. I can really relate to this and Melania. Having known her deeply for years I can really see what your idea was behind it. And testify that it is very very true the thought you had. She has a way of really putting her 'mask' down for sure. But she can have a mask too..but get to know her deep enough and it always shines through even though sometimes she might try to have a mask on. This piece touches me alot. It's lovely and it brings me to think again on how I cheerish to have her in my life. Thank you :)

I ADORE, not merely love, this. You have outdone my most high expectations, and you have made me part of a wonderful expression of art, that has such a deep, deep sense. A sense that I love. A sense which is true. The perceptions are masks, because the real self is something too big to be caught, so we just get fragments of it, and the fragments are never the essence, but someway, they always are, alternatively. You have also choose a concept (communication and representation of the self) that I study ,then once again, you've created a masterpiece. I can just feel honoured, and furtherly impressed, by your art. I didn't fail when I accepted with enthousiasm your request for my pictures. Thank you, with all my heart. You've emotioned me. :)

I think there IS a beauty in your works, but no matter what you try to do, your style comes out of it. Wonderful work, love it :-)

I can relate to you in regards to making someone look beautiful. I have always found that when I draw, it is much easier to make someone uglier than it is to make something beautiful. Perhaps it is because symmetry is inherent in human beauty and it is easier to draw an oblong, uneven, and skewed likeness. I think that her right eye is the only thing that does'n look like Meli's. To tell you the truth I thought of Meli right away when I saw this. Aside from all of that, to me it looks like she is asking, in somewhat of a passive demeanor; "But why did you have to rip out my jugular?" I think that the length of my post is a testament to the pleasure I derived from viewing it. Much respect.
